This experimental study investigated the effects of the Six Thinking Hats (STH) task—a structured metacognitive framework developed by Edward de Bono (2000) that encourages thinking from six perspectives (factual, emotional, critical, optimistic, creative, an‎d reflective)—on Iranian EFL learnersʹ speaking performance an‎d error reduction. Fifty young adult learners (23 males an‎d 27 females), aged between 12 an‎d 18, were selec‎ted through convenience-ran‎dom sampling from a language institute in Yazd, Iran. The participants were ran‎domly assigned to an experimental group (receiving STH-based instruction) an‎d a control group (receiving conventional instruction). Using a pretest–posttest design, speaking performance was measured through the Preliminary English Test (PET) speaking section, while grammatical, lexical, phonological, an‎d discourse errors were analyzed based on Ellisʹs (2008) taxonomy. Results indicated that the STH group achieved significantly greater improvement in speaking scores (M=12.08 → 16.60) compared to the control group (M=11.96 → 12.96). Error analysis showed substantial reductions across all categories: grammatical (50.5%), lexical (58%), phonological (64.2%), an‎d complete elimination of discourse errors. Statistical analyses (t-tests, p<‎0.001) confirmed these improvements were significant. The findings demonstrate that the Six Thinking Hats framework effectively enhances speaking performance an‎d reduces linguistic errors in EFL learners. This study provides empirical evidence supporting STH as a valuable pedagogical tool for developing communicative competence in English speaking classrooms.

اين مطالعه‌ي آزمايشي، تأثير به‌كارگيري فعاليت شش كلاه تفكر (STH) را بر عملكرد گفتاري و كاهش خطاهاي زبان‌آموزان ايراني زبان انگليسي به‌عنوان زبان خارجي بررسي كرد. پنجاه زبان‌آموز نوجوان به دو گروه آزمايشي (آموزش با روش STH) و كنترل (آموزش سنتي) تقسيم شدند. با استفاده از طرح پيش‌آزمون ـ پس‌آزمون، عملكرد گفتاري از طريق آزمون‌هاي گفتاري PET سنجيده شد و خطاهاي دستوري، واژگاني، آوايي و گفتماني بر اساس طبقه‌بندي اليس (2008) تحليل گرديد. نتايج نشان داد گروه STH بهبود معنادار بيشتري در نمرات گفتاري (از ميانگين 12.08 به 16.60) در مقايسه با گروه كنترل (از ميانگين 11.96 به 12.96) داشت. تحليل خطاها كاهش چشمگيري را در تمام دسته‌ ها نشان داد: خطاهاي دستوري (50.5٪)، واژگاني (58٪)، آوايي (64.2٪) و حذف كامل خطاهاي گفتماني. تحليل‌هاي آماري (آزمون t، 0.001p ≥ ) اين بهبودها را معنادار تأييد كردند. يافته‌ها نشان مي‌دهند كه چارچوب ساختاريافته STH به‌طور مؤثري عملكرد گفتاري را ارتقا داده و خطاها را در زبان‌آموزان EFL كاهش مي‌دهد. اين پژوهش شواهد تجربي براي پشتيباني از STH به‌عنوان فعاليتي ارزشمند در آموزش مهارت گفتاري و رسيدگي به الگوهاي خطا در محيط هاي آموزش زبان خارجي ارائه مي‌دهد. از پيامدهاي كاربردي اين مطالعه مي‌توان به ادغام فعاليت STH در آموزش گفتار براي تقويت شايستگي ارتباطي زبان‌ آموزان اشاره كرد.
