Among the different means by which man has attempted to discover the unknown, travel has always been one of the most attractive. Getting to know foreign cultures an‎d trying to understan‎d other peopleʹs way of life is a challenge with a special name: exoticism. Literature, as a means of expressing different aspects of human life, has always been a carrier of representing the thoughts an‎d experiences of the authors of travel stories, namely those who wrote down the results of their seen an‎d heard in different countries, an‎d in this way, they provided the basis for the exploration of comparative literature. One of the important topics of comparative literature concerns the claims raised by postcolonialist writers an‎d their protest against the image that Western writers have shown of the societies colonized by Europeans an‎d Americans to the world. With his famous theory of Orientalism, Edward Saïd took an important step toward correcting ideas that the Orient deserves Western colonization. In this research, using the orientalist approach an‎d imagology, we presented an imagological study of Persian otherness in The Cruel Way of Ella Maillart an‎d Monsieur Bohler’s Travel Story. The main objective of this study is to examine the image presented of northern Iran by these French travelers in their travel stories. It seeks to find the answer to this fundamental question: how is northern Iran introduced into the works of these authors an‎d do we see signs of their orientalist vision in their works? The analysis of two works clearly shows that Bohler an‎d Maillart went to northern Iran with different objectives an‎d points of view; according to them, Iran, despite its particular history an‎d its strategic situation, has a relatively ignorant people with autocratic leaders who do not know how to properly use the gifts of this earth.

در ميانِ راه¬هاي مختلفي كه آدمي براي كشفِ ناشناخته¬ها امتحان كرده است، سفركردن همواره يكي از جذاب¬ترينِ آن¬ها بوده است. آشناشدن با فرهنگ¬هاي بيگانه و تلاش براي درك¬كردنِ سبك زندگيِ ديگري، چالشي است كه نامي خاص به خود گرفته است: اگزوتيسم. ادبيات نيز به عنوان ابزارِ بيان جنبه¬هاي مختلف زندگيِ آدمي، از ديرباز محملِ بازنماييِ انديشه¬ها و تجربياتِ نويسندگانِ سفرنامه¬نويس بوده است، نويسندگاني كه حاصلِ ديده¬ها و شنيده¬هايِ خود را در سرزمين¬هايِ مختلف نوشته¬اند و از اين طريق، زمينه را براي گسترشِ ادبياتِ تطبيقي فراهم كرده¬اند. يكي از موضوعات مهم در ادبيات تطبيقي، مطالباتِ مطرح¬ شده توسطِ نويسندگان در جهانِ پسااستعماري و اعتراضِ آنان به تصويري است كه نويسندگانِ غربي از جوامعِ تحت سلطه¬ي اروپا و آمريكا به جهانيان نشان داده¬اند. ادوارد سعيد با نظريه¬ي معروف خود، شرق¬شناسي، گام مهمي در جهت اصلاحِ ديدگاه¬هايي برداشته است كه شرق را شايسته¬ي استعمارِ غرب مي¬دانند. در اين پژوهش با بهره¬گيري از رويكردِ شرق¬شناسي و تصويرشناسي، به مطالعه¬ي تصويرشناسي از ديگربودگيِ ايراني در راهِ بي¬رحم الا مايار و سفرنامه¬ي بهلر پرداخته¬ايم. هدفِ اصلي اين مطالعه، بررسي تصويري است كه اين مسافرانِ فرانسوي از شمال ايران در سفرنامه¬هاي خود ارائه كرده¬اند. اين تحقيق در پي يافتنِ پاسخ اين سؤالِ اساسي است كه شمال ايران در آثار اين نويسندگان چگونه معرفي شده و آيا در اين معرفي، شاهد نشانه¬هايي از نگاه شرق¬شناسانه¬ي نويسندگان هستيم؟ بررسيِ دو اثر نشان مي¬دهد كه هرچند بهلر و مايار با اهداف و نگاه¬هايي متفاوت به شمالِ ايران سفركرده¬اند اما از ديدگاه آن¬ها، ايران به رغم تاريخ خاص و موقعيت استراتژيك، مردمي نسبتاً ناآگاه با حاكماني مستبد دارد كه راهِ استفاده مواهب اين سرزمين را به درستي نمي¬دانند.
