The main purpose of this study was to investigate the possible effect of teaching discourse markers through flipped model on Iraqi EFL learners’ writing performance. To achieve this end, 90 advanced EFL learners passing the writing course at the University of Basrah were selec‎ted an‎d assigned into three groups; two as the experimental an‎d one as the control group. The homogeneity of the participants was checked using OQPT an‎d the normality of the data was calculated. The first experimental group received instruction on discourse markers through flipped model while the other experimental group received instruction on discourse markers through the regular traditional classroom practice. The control group received no instruction on discourse markers. All three groups were supposed to write essays on the same topics an‎d practice writing during the classroom time. Data analysis revealed that teaching discourse markers significantly affected EFL learners’ knowledge of discourse markers with the outperformance of the first group who received instruction through the flipped model. However, there was no significant effect of teaching discourse markers on advanced Iraqi EFL learners’ overall writing ability. The results of the interview showed that using flipped model increased learners’ confidence an‎d developed positive attitudes towards flipped classes. Finally, some of the challenges an‎d the problems of the study were stated by the interviewees. The findings of the present study can be fruitful for the practitioners in the field of EFL teaching in general, an‎d for those who plan to hold flipped classes in particular.

هدف از پژوهش حاضر، بررسي تاثير تدريس نشانگرهاي كلامي از طريق مدل تدريس معكوس بر مهارت نوشتاري فراگيران عراقي زبان انگليسي بود. براي رسيدن به اين هدف، 90 زبان آموز سطح پيشرفته كه در حال گذراندن دوره نگارش در دانشگاه بصره بودند، انتخاب شدند و به سه گروه (دو گروه آزمايش و يك گروه ناظر) تقسيم شدند. با استفاده از آزمون تعيين سطح سريع آكسفورد، دانشجويان سطح پيشرفته مشخص شدند. اولين گروه آزمايش، آموزش نشانگرهاي كلامي را از طريق مدل تدريس معكوس و گروه آزمايش دوم، آموزش نشانگرهاي كلامي را به شيوه معمول و سنتي در كلاس درس دريافت نمودند. گروه شاهد نيز هيچ آموزشي در زمينه نشانگرهاي كلامي دريافت نكرد. هر 3 گروه در كلاس درس، انشاهايي با موضوع يكسان در طول جلسات كلاس مي نوشتند. تحليل داده هاي حاصل از آزمون دانش نشانگرهاي كلامي و نيز آزمون نگارش نشان داد تدريس نشانگرهاي كلامي، دانش فراگيران را هم در روش تدريس معكوس و هم در روش سنتي افزايش داده است ولي تغيير محسوسي در مهارت نگارش فراگيران ايجاد ننموده است. همچنين نتايج مصاحبه نشان داد كه استفاده از مدل تدريس معكوس، اعتماد به نفس زبان آموزان را افزايش داده و در آنها نگرش مثبتي نسبت به اين شيوه آموزشي ايجاد نموده است. برخي از چالشها و مشكلات استفاده از اين مدل نيز توسط شركت كنندگان گروه آزمايش اول مطرح گرديد. يافته هاي اين پژوهش دستاوردهايي در خصوص استفاده از مدل تدريس معكوس در آموزش زبان انگليسي ارائه مي نمايد.
