The comparative analysis of educational materials has been conducted for many years to provide insights into the effectiveness of teaching methods an‎d curriculum design. This thesis aimed to compare the Eleventh Grade High School English textbooks used in Iraq an‎d Qatar based on the Cunningsworth (1995) model of textbook eva‎luation. A descriptive design an‎d content analysis was used to reach this aim. First of all, as well as the covers of the books, the grammar content, the number of grammatical structures, an‎d the approaches to teaching grammar were investigated. In this regard, the results showed that the Iraqi textbook predominantly utilized a deductive teaching method, presenting grammatical rules through charts an‎d tables without providing contextual examples. In contrast, the Qatari textbook embraces an inductive teaching method, incorporating color coding an‎d real-life applications to facilitate learning. Additionally, the thesis examined the treatment of speaking skills in both textbooks, including task-based activities, reading tasks, pronunciation practice, an‎d pair an‎d group work. Both textbooks incorporate important features such as task-based activities, real-life communication contexts, an‎d collaborative exercises designed to engage students actively with the language an‎d build their confidence an‎d fluency. However, a notable gap in both textbooks is the lack of a dedicated pronunciation practice component, which could enhance studentsʹ overall speaking proficiency by focusing on pronunciation, intonation, an‎d phonetic accuracy. Finally, the thesis explored the interpersonal an‎d textual functions of the two textbooks, highlighting how each book addresses the needs of students in their respective educational contexts. Through this comparative analysis, the study provided insights into the strengths an‎d weaknesses of each textbook, offering recommendations for improving English language instruction in both countries.

اين پايان نامه به مقايسه كتاب هاي درسي زبان انگليسي پايه يازدهم دبيرستان هاي عراق و قطر ميپردازد. اين مقايسه بر چند جنبه كليدي تمركز دارد: جلد كتابها، محتواي گرامري، تعداد ساختارهاي گرامري و روشهاي تدريس گرامر. كتاب درسي عراقي عمدتاً از روش تدريس قياسي استفاده ميكند و قوانين گرامري را از طريق جداول و نمودارها بدون ارائه مثال هاي متني ارائه ميدهد. در مقابل، كتاب درسي قطري از روش تدريس استقرايي استفاده ميكند و با استفاده از كدگذاري رنگي و كاربردهاي واقعي به تسهيل يادگيري ميپردازد. علاوه بر اين، اين پايان نامه به بررسي نحوه آموزش مهارت هاي گفتاري در هر دو كتاب درسي ميپردازد، از جمله فعاليت هاي مبتني بر وظيفه، تمرينهاي خواندن، تمرين هاي تلفظ و كارهاي گروهي و دو نفره. هر دو كتاب درسي ويژگي هاي مهمي مانند فعاليت هاي مبتني بر وظيفه، زمينه هاي ارتباطي واقعي و تمرين هاي تعاملي را شامل ميشوند كه براي درگير كردن فعالانه دانش آموزان با زبان و افزايش اعتماد به نفس و رواني آنها طراحي شده اند. با اين حال، يك نقص قابل توجه در هر دو كتاب درسي، عدم وجود بخش اختصاصي براي تمرين تلفظ است كه ميتواند با تمركز بر تلفظ، لحن و دقت آوايي، مهارت گفتاري كلي دانش آموزان را بهبود بخشد. اين پايان نامه همچنين به بررسي عملكردهاي بين فردي و متني دو كتاب درسي مي پردازد و نشان مي دهد كه هر كتاب چگونه به نيازهاي دانش آموزان در زمينه هاي آموزشي مربوطه پاسخ ميدهد. از طريق اين تحليل مقايسه اي، مطالعه به نقاط قوت و ضعف هر كتاب درسي پرداخته و پيشنهاداتي براي بهبود آموزش زبان انگليسي در هر دو كشور ارائه ميدهد.
