This thesis undertakes an exploration of the intersection of narrative, rhetoric, ethics, an‎d ideology in the renowned works of Ian McEwan, the eminent British novelist celebrated for his acute understan‎ding of the contemporary world. Focusing specifically on the novels Atonement an‎d Saturday, the study employs the rhetorical narratology approach to investigate how McEwan deploys rhetorical devices to engage readers on cognitive, emotional, moral, an‎d values levels. Furthermore, it delves into the intricate relationship between ethics an‎d ideology in his novels, revealing how McEwan blurs moral boundaries an‎d influences readers toward colonialist an‎d imperialist agendas. The research unfurls the entwinement of McEwanʹs work in ideological complexities, despite his claims to distance himself from ideologies. Additionally, it posits that democracy itself can be perceived as an ideology, reflecting a tension in McEwanʹs narratives between rejecting ideologies while deliberately perpetuating them. Overall, this thesis significantly enriches the understan‎ding of how rhetoric, ethics, ideology, an‎d narrative converge in McEwanʹs literature, thus encouraging further exploration from diverse theoretical perspectives.

اين پايان نامه به بررسي تلاقي روايت، بلاغت، اخلاق، و ايدئولوژي در آثار مشهور ايان مك يوان، رمان نويس برجسته انگليسي مي پردازد. اين مطالعه با تمركز ويژه بر رمان‌هاي كفاره و شنبه از رويكرد روايت‌شناسي بلاغي بهره ميگيرد تا نحوه استفاده رمان نويس از ابزارهاي بلاغي براي درگير كردن خوانندگان در سطوح شناختي، عاطفي، اخلاقي و ارزشي را بررسي كند. علاوه بر اين، اين پايان نامه رابطه پيچيده بين اخلاق و ايدئولوژي در رمان‌ هاي مورد بحث را كاويده و نشان مي‌دهد كه چگونه مك‌يوان مرزهاي اخلاقي را مغشوش كرده و خوانندگان را به سمت پذيرش ديدگاههاي استعماري و امپرياليستي سوق مي‌دهد. اين تحقيق ، عليرغم ادعاي مك يوان مبني بر نا-سوگيري، بر منش ايدئولوژيك آثار وي تاكيد مي كند و نشان ميدهد برجسته سازي آنچه مك يوان ارزشهاي ليبرال دموكراسي ميانگارد خود وجهي ايدئولوژيك دارد كه نشانگر تناقضات موضع نويسنده است. اين پايان نامه ميكوشد درك بهتري از چگونگي همگرايي بلاغت، اخلاق، ايدئولوژي و روايت در آثار مورد بحث از اين نوسينده سرشناس انگليسي ارائه كند.
