English Abstract
The present research which is related to studying English in schools and private language institutes aimed to investigate the difference between the engagement level of those students who only studied English with local English textbooks and those who studied English both with local and International English textbooks. The topic of this research is “Fostering Engagement through Course Materials: Comparing Iranian (Vision 3) and International (Pre-Intermediate English Files 4th Edition) ELT textbooks in learner’s Emotional, Behavioral, and Cognitive Engagement.” There were two purposes for this research, the first one was associated with the material development used in the schools and institutes English textbooks; this research looked forward to investigate whether these books comprised elements that enhance the cognitive, behavioral, and emotional engagement of pupils to learn the English language or not. As the second objective, this research intended to investigate the level of involvement in pupils who studied only school English textbooks and those who studied both local and international English textbooks regarding to various dimensions of engagement which are cognitive, behavioral, and emotional. The research questions were:
1. Is there any difference between Iranian (Vision 3) and Pre-Intermediate (English File-4th Edition) textbooks regarding the extent to which they foster Emotional Engagement among Iranian EFL learners?
2. Is there any difference between Iranian (Vision 3) and Pre- Intermediate (English File-4th Edition) textbooks regarding the extent to which they foster Cognitive Engagement among Iranian EFL learners?
3. Is there any difference between Iranian (Vision 3) and Pre-Intermediate (English File-4th Edition) textbooks regarding the extent to which they foster Behavioral Engagement among Iranian EFL learners?
4. What are the elements of Behavioral, Emotional, and Cognitive Engagement in Iranian (Vision 3) textbook?
5. What are the elements of Behavioral, Emotional, and Cognitive Engagement in Pre-Intermediate (English File 4th Edition) textbook?
The participants of this research were ninety learners, thirty of them were those who only studied Vision 3 as their English language textbooks and the other sixty were those who studied pre-intermediate English file textbooks in addition to their school English book. The process of data collection in this research was gathered by interviewing with thirty students in schools who only studied “Vision 3” and giving questionnaires to those students who both studied English with “Vision 3” and “Pre-intermediate English-file textbook.” The results of this research was interesting, the researcher found that the level of engagement in students who only studied local English textbooks was lower than the level of engagement in students who studied international English textbooks as their second English book.

تحقيق حاضر كه به مطالعه زبان انگليسي در مدارس و موسسات زبان خصوصي مربوط ميشود، هدفش بررسي تفاوت در سطح مشاركت دانشآموزاني است كه فقط با كتابهاي درسي محلي زبان انگليسي مطالعه كردهاند و دانشآموزاني كه هم با كتابهاي درسي محلي و هم با كتابهاي بينالمللي زبان انگليسي مطالعه كردهاند. موضوع اين تحقيق "تقويت مشاركت از طريق مواد درسي: مقايسه كتابهاي درسي ELT ايراني (Vision 3) و بينالمللي (Pre-Intermediate English Files 4th Edition) در مشاركت عاطفي، رفتاري و شناختي يادگيرندگان" است.
اين تحقيق دو هدف اصلي داشت: هدف اول به توسعه مواد آموزشي استفاده شده در كتابهاي درسي زبان انگليسي مدارس و موسسات مرتبط بود؛ اين تحقيق به دنبال بررسي اين بود كه آيا اين كتابها شامل عناصري هستند كه مشاركت شناختي، رفتاري و عاطفي دانشآموزان را در يادگيري زبان انگليسي تقويت كند يا خير. هدف دوم اين تحقيق بررسي سطح مشاركت دانشآموزاني بود كه فقط از كتابهاي درسي زبان انگليسي مدرسه استفاده ميكردند و دانشآموزاني كه هم از كتابهاي محلي و هم از كتابهاي بينالمللي زبان انگليسي استفاده ميكردند، با توجه به ابعاد مختلف مشاركت كه شامل شناختي، رفتاري و عاطفي است.
سوالات تحقيق عبارت بودند از:
1. آيا بين كتابهاي درسي ايراني (Vision 3) و Pre-Intermediate (English File-4th Edition) از نظر ميزان تقويت مشاركت عاطفي در ميان يادگيرندگان EFL ايراني تفاوتي وجود دارد؟
2. آيا بين كتابهاي درسي ايراني (Vision 3) و Pre-Intermediate (English File-4th Edition) از نظر ميزان تقويت مشاركت شناختي در ميان يادگيرندگان EFL ايراني تفاوتي وجود دارد؟
3. آيا بين كتابهاي درسي ايراني (Vision 3) و Pre-Intermediate (English File-4th Edition) از نظر ميزان تقويت مشاركت رفتاري در ميان يادگيرندگان EFL ايراني تفاوتي وجود دارد؟
4. عناصر مشاركت رفتاري، عاطفي و شناختي در كتاب درسي ايراني (Vision 3) چيست؟
5. عناصر مشاركت رفتاري، عاطفي و شناختي در كتاب درسي Pre-Intermediate (English File 4th Edition) چيست؟
شركتكنندگان اين تحقيق نود يادگيرنده بودند كه سي نفر از آنها فقط از Vision 3 به عنوان كتاب درسي زبان انگليسي خود استفاده ميكردند و شصت نفر ديگر علاوه بر كتاب زبان انگليسي مدرسه، از كتابهاي Pre-Intermediate English File نيز استفاده ميكردند. فرآيند جمعآوري دادهها در اين تحقيق با مصاحبه با سي دانشآموز كه فقط از "Vision 3" استفاده ميكردند و توزيع پرسشنامه به دانشآموزاني كه هم از "Vision 3" و هم از "Pre-Intermediate English File" استفاده ميكردند، انجام شد. نتايج اين تحقيق جالب بود؛ پژوهشگر دريافت كه سطح مشاركت دانشآموزاني كه فقط از كتابهاي محلي زبان انگليسي استفاده ميكردند، پايينتر از سطح مشاركت دانشآموزاني بود كه كتابهاي بينالمللي زبان انگليسي را به عنوان منبع دوم خود مطالعه ميكردند.
