Quotatives are linguistic devices that introduce reported speech an‎d are an integral part of journalistic writing. However, there is a concerning gap in the literature regarding a general lack of understan‎ding of quotatives in journalistic texts translated to Persian. Therefore, this study aims at shedding light on the lexical an‎d grammatical features of quotatives as well as the translation strategies employed to render them in the English-to-Persian language pair in journalistic text. The theoretical framework of this thesis was based on Sams’ (2009) study to analyze the quotatives an‎d Molina & Albir’s (2002) classification of translation techniques—albeit referred to strategies in this thesis—to categorize the identified translation strategies employed for quotatives. The corpus of this thesis consists of translated quotatives found in 4 Iranian news websites along with their English sources. The 4 websites are: zoomg.ir, khabaronline.com, ecoiran.com, digiato.com. The findings include 8 identified translation strategies: literal translation, amplification, variation, reduction, modulation, transposition, discursive creation, an‎d linguistic amplification. Moreover, the study explored the quotative features in the Persian sub-corpus, one of which is: use of intransitive verbs. Furthermore, the interplay between translation strategies an‎d quotative features in both languages was explored. Finally, the findings of this could help translators make more informed decisions when translating quotatives. The pathways for future studies may include: exploration of the quotative features in other language varieties of Persian, investigating the use of intransitive verbs in quotatives in original Persian texts.

ناقل¬ها ابزارهاي زباني هستند كه نقل¬قول را معرفي مي‌كنند و بخشي اساسي از نوشتار مطبوعاتي هستند. با اين حال، يك شكاف نگران‌كننده در ادبيات وجود دارد كه شامل فقدان دركي كليّ از ناقل¬ها در متون مطبوعاتي ترجمه شده به فارسي است. بنابراين، اين مطالعه هدف خود را روشن كردن ويژگي‌هاي واژگاني و دستوري ناقل¬ها و همچنين استراتژي‌هاي ترجمه استفاده شده براي ترجمه آن‌ها در جفت زباني انگليسي به فارسي در متون روزنامه‌نگاري قرار داده است. چارچوب نظري اين پايان‌نامه بر اساس تحقيق سامز (2009) براي تجزيه و تحليل ناقل¬ها و طبقه‌بندي تكنيك‌هاي ترجمه مولينا و آلبير (2002) - اگرچه در اين پايان‌نامه به‌عنوان استراتژي‌ نام برده شده است - براي دسته‌بندي استراتژي‌هاي ترجمه شناسايي شده مورد استفاده قرار گرفت. پيكرهِ اين پايان‌نامه شامل ناقل¬هاي ترجمه شده يافت شده در 4 وب‌سايت خبري ايراني همراه با منابع انگليسي آن‌ها است. اين 4 وب‌سايت عبارتند از: ،khabaronline.com، ecoiran.com، digiato.com, zoomg.ir .يافته‌ها شامل 8 استراتژي ترجمه شناسايي شده است: ترجمه مستقيم، تقويت، تنوع، كاهش، مدولاسيون، جابجايي، خلق گفتماني و تقويت زباني. علاوه بر اين، اين تحقيق، ويژگي‌هاي ناقل¬ها را در زيرپيكره فارسي پيدا كرد و يكي از آن‌ها استفاده از افعال ناگذرا است. علاوه بر اين، تعامل بين استراتژي‌هاي ترجمه و ويژگي‌هاي ناقل¬ها در هر دو زبان بررسي شد. در نهايت، يافته‌هاي اين مي‌تواند به مترجمان كمك كند تا تصميمات آگاهانه‌تري در هنگام ترجمه ناقل¬ها بگيرند. مسيرهاي مطالعه آينده ممكن است شامل: بررسي ويژگي‌هاي نقل‌قول در گونه‌هاي زباني ديگر از فارسي، بررسي استفاده از افعال ناگذرا در ناقل¬ها در متون اصلي فارسي باشد.
