This study aimed to investigate the effect of a combined intervention program (LSVT-BIG exercises along with cognitive tasks) on functional indicators, balance, and quality of life in elderly women. The present study was applied and quasi-experimental, employing a pretest-posttest design with intervention and control groups. The statistical population consisted of elderly women aged 65 and older residing in nursing homes. Forty participants (20 in the intervention group and 20 in the control group) completed the study. The research intervention was implemented as a modified LSVT-BIG protocol for 8 weeks, consisting of 2 sessions per week, each lasting 60 minutes. To evaluate the research variables, internationally validated tests were used: static balance was measured by the One-Leg Stand Test (OLST), dynamic balance by the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), walking speed by the 10-Meter Walk Test, quality of life by the WHOQOL-OLD questionnaire, and functional independence by the Barthel Index. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. After verifying the normality of data distribution with the Shapiro-Wilk test, Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used for inter-group mean comparisons, and the Bonferroni post-hoc test was applied for pairwise differences. All statistical calculations were performed using SPSS version 21 and Microsoft Excel 2010. The findings indicated that eight weeks of combined LSVT-BIG and cognitive training had a significant effect on fear of falling, static balance, dynamic balance, walking speed, quality of life, and functional independence in the elderly. These results emphasize the importance of multi-faceted interventions for promoting quality of life and suggest this training protocol as an efficient strategy for rehabilitation and health programs in older adults.
