The aim of this study is to apply discourse semiotics, based on the tensive model, to the analysis of enunciative processes in the verses related to Paradise in the Holy Quran. Discourse semiotics has been developed with the aim of examining the processes through which meaning is produced and received. In tensive semiotics, meaning is constituted along two central dimensions: intensity (contractive/affective) and extensity (expansive/cognitive). Intensity is assessed in terms of the degree of strength, energy, and affective charge of meaning, whereas extensity is measured according to the degree of distribution, the quantity of elements, and temporal and spatial distances. Drawing on the tensive model, this study considers intensity and extensity as analytical indicators and determines the position of each verse within the tensive space according to the predominance or simultaneous presence of these two dimensions. Based on this theoretical framework, the study examines the discursive processes and tensive patterns of the verses related to Paradise. The discourse of the verses of Paradise has a dynamic structure in which movement between extensity and intensity is continuously and purposefully organized. This structural oscillation enables the text both to provide imagery and cognitive expansion of the world of Paradise and to strengthen the audience’s affective and axiological engagement through affective concentration and the explicit or implicit presence of the enunciating subject. Accordingly, the verses of Paradise do not follow a fixed pattern but exhibit diverse tensive patterns. To organize the analysis, the verses under study have been classified into two main groups. The first comprises descriptive verses of Paradise, for which all relevant verses have been taken into consideration (Chapter Three); these verses depict the scenes, characteristics, and states of Paradise. The second comprises verses in which Paradise is presented as the outcome of faith and piety; in this group, recurring structures have been extracted (Chapter Four), and Paradise is presented not through descriptive details but in the form of a promise, glad tidings, or reward. In both groups, the predominance of the intensity or extensity dimension, as well as the possibility of their simultaneous presence, has been examined. The findings show that, in descriptive texts of Paradise, movement toward spatial, temporal, and object-oriented expansion is generally accompanied by elements of address, evaluation, and the explicit or implicit presence of the enunciating subject. Analysis of the subtexts of these verses indicates that the discourse of Paradise is predominantly structured through processual enunciation. In verses presenting Paradise as an outcome, texts based on the actional-processual pattern are more frequent; however, these discourses subsequently tend toward the dimension of intensity and do not become immersed in expansive imagery. Another group of these verses, although less frequent, exhibits structural diversity and the presence of the enunciating subject. In these verses, the enunciating subject and the actant are identical; consequently, the discourse follows a path of discursive connection. These verses, with their emphasis on affective energy, are predominantly articulated according to the eventive pattern.
