The relationship between sincerity an‎d wisdom in Islamic mysticism with an emphasis on the treatise on conduct by Bahr al-Uloom

The present study aims to analyze the relationship between sincerity an‎d wisdom in the mystical poem "Sir va Suluk" attributed to Allamah Seyyed Muhammad Mahdi Bahr al-Uloom. This treatise is one of the important texts of Shiite practical mysticism that, by explaining the twelve stages of the spiritual path, especially the realm of purity, provides an educational structure for purifying the soul an‎d reaching divine wisdom. In this study, using the attributive-analytical method an‎d utilizing mystical, philosophical, an‎d interpretive sources, the concepts of sincerity an‎d wisdom have been examined at three levels: theoretical, educational, an‎d existential. The findings of the study show that sincerity, as the emptying of the other an‎d the separation from what is not the truth, is a fundamental condition for realizing wisdom. Wisdom is not theoretical knowledge, but rather the manifestation of divine light in the mind an‎d heart of the seeker an‎d the final fruit of mystical path. In this regard, a new theory has been proposed under the title of "sincerity of wisdom," according to which every wisdom is the manifestation of a divine name in the context of sincerity. This theory has been adapted to the teachings of Ibn Arabiʹs mysticism an‎d Sadraʹi philosophy, an‎d it has been shown that sincerity is an existential condition for unity with truth, an‎d wisdom is the actualization of that unity in the existential plane of man
