This study was conducted with the aim of identifying the current applications of artificial intelligence in professional football an‎d examining the possibility of implementing its future applications in Iranian football. The present research is qualitative an‎d library-based, an‎d its data were collected through reviewing an‎d note-taking from forty related scientific articles. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The analysis process included the stages of initial familiarization with the data, generating initial codes, identifying the main themes, reviewing an‎d refining the themes, defining an‎d naming the themes, an‎d finally reporting an‎d presenting the findings. In order to ensure the validity an‎d reliability of the data, relevant scientific sources were used, an‎d the selec‎tion an‎d exclusion of sources were carried out based on their relevance to the objectives of the research; moreover, the extracted themes were formed directly on the basis of the findings an‎d content of the articles. The findings of the study showed that the applications of artificial intelligence in professional football can be analyzed in the form of coherent an‎d classifiable themes, an‎d these themes can provide an appropriate basis for eva‎luating the capacities for implementing this technology in Iranian football. Accordingly, artificial intelligence can be used in professional football in areas such as predicting the results of matches an‎d tournaments, preventing an‎d managing player injuries, tactical an‎d technical analysis of team performance, financial valuation an‎d talent identification of players, optimization of training an‎d coaching processes, an‎d analysis of media interactions an‎d fans’ sentiments. Overall, the results of this study indicate that the use of artificial intelligence in Iranian football, provided that the necessary infrastructures are available, can lead to improved decision making quality an‎d the enhancement of the level of professionalization in this field.
