Tourism has become one of the main drivers for economic growth in many developing and developed countries over recent decades. Tourism is also known as the fastest-growing job-creating industry in the world and the second industry after the oil industry worldwide. Available high tourism potentials in Iran have put Iran among the first ten countries in the world that can welcome tourists. The northern area of Fars Province, including Abadeh, Eghlid, Bavanat, Pasargad, Khorram Bid, and SarChahan Counties has a population of around 320.000 people, special geographical locations, climatic and cultural diversities, many natural, historical, and religious attractions, and many capacities for tourism industry development. However, the Isfahan-Shiraz Freeway project implemented in this area played a negative role in the economy of settlements built in this area over recent years. A solution for this problem is to change the role and function of studied cities and settlements and achieve a balanced development in the areaʹs tourism industry.
Hence, this study identifies and introduces the tourism potential of this area. For this purpose, the required information is obtained from various library references, documents, and field studies based on the descriptive-analytical, causal, and survey methods. Meanwhile, the questionnaire is prepared and distributed to be filled out by native people, managers, tourism experts, and tourists. Data analysis was done through quantitative and qualitative models such as AHP and SWOT, and Geographic Information System (GIS) capabilities. Then creative tourism development strategies were proposed for this area after finding proper places for developing various types of tourism.
The results indicate that the northern area of Fars Province has the potential to develop 13 specific types of tourism. Also, regarding the special geographical location of the area some strategies were proposed as the most important solutions for developing creative regional tourism in the studied area: creating a proper route to the Isfahan-Shiraz Freeway, creating suitable connection route from all counties to Tarigh Alreza Highway, developing public transportation and connecting it to the public transportation and transit system of the country, redistributing and diversifying the facilities and services required for tourists, creating security, and ensuring investment in tourism sector.
