Artistic Image Of Personal an‎d Social Security In Nahj al- balagha

The undeniable power of artistic imagery in conveying complex concepts an‎d evoking emotions is a well-established fact; artists, by leveraging visual language, are capable of revealing unseen worlds an‎d creating rich experiences for the audience. This ability to generate meaning an‎d influence is evident not only in contemporary art but also in ancient texts an‎d cultural legacies. To this end, the remarkable capacity of imagery in Nahj al-Balagha to elucidate concepts such as “individual security” an‎d “social security” has been investigated. The present research aims to explain the rhetorical an‎d artistic capabilities of Nahj al-Balagha in this regard. This qualitative study, conducted with a descriptive-analytical approach an‎d as a type of fundamental an‎d library research, first delineates the fundamental concepts of “individual security” an‎d “social security,” along with their respective instances an‎d dimensions. Subsequently, by referring to Nahj al-Balagha, the imagery created by Imam Ali for each of these dimensions of security has been examined, an‎d the functions of these images have been expounded. The findings clearly indicate that Nahj al-Balagha is not merely a collection of theoretical admonitions, but a powerful medium that utilizes all rhetorical capacities of language to embody vital concepts. Imam Ali (PBUH) has depicted the multidimensional concept of security through metaphors, similes, contrasts, an‎d vivid scene-setting. This research revealed that security, from an Alawi perspective, is an integrated an‎d intertwined concept that begins with “individual security” based on self-purification an‎d piety, an‎d culminates in “social security” based on justice an‎d the accountability of rulers; two domains that are interdependent. Finally, this study emphasizes that re-reading Nahj al-Balagha with an artistic approach can offer authentic an‎d effective solutions to contemporary global security challenges an‎d serve as an inspiring resource, particularly for a younger generation that connects more strongly with the language of art an‎d imagery. It is suggested that cultural institutions leverage modern artistic techniques to produce engaging content based on these images.
