The phenomenon of bullying in schools is a significant and growing challenge that can have devastating effects on students’ mental health and academic progress. Therefore, identifying its underlying factors, especially familial factors, is of paramount importance. The present study aimed to determine the role of familial factors in bullying among male junior high school students. This study was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population included all male junior high school students in Isfahan during the 2024-2025 academic year, along with their parents. The sample size, determined based on the Krejcie and Morgan table, was 304 participants (students and their parents) and was selected using a multi-stage cluster random sampling method. Data collection instruments included the Illinois Bullying Scale, the Baumrind Parenting Styles Inventory, the Experiences in Close Relationships Revised Questionnaire, the Keyes Mental Health Continuum-Short Form Scale and the Children Perception of the Inter Parental Conflict Scale. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient, regression analysis, and path analysis, utilizing SPSS and AMOS software. The research findings indicated a binary relationship between bullying and perceived family conflict, attachment anxiety and avoidance, maternal and paternal authoritarian and authoritative parenting styles, and maternal and paternal mental health. However, when considering the multiple relationships of familial factors with bullying, only maternal authoritative parenting style, perceived conflict, attachment avoidance, paternal mental health, and maternal mental health had a significant relationship with bullying and the ability to predict it. This research emphasizes the key role of the family, and especially the differential impact of mothers and fathers, in the formation of bullying behavior in male students. Based on the findings, teaching communication skills to parents, creating a warm and supportive family environment, and implementing educational and preventive programs in schools in continuous cooperation with families can be effective in reducing the phenomenon of bullying.
