A Comparative Study of Self an‎d the Other in the Novels, ‘How to Breastfeed from a lupus Without Biting You’ an‎d ‘The Nocturnal Harmony of Wood Orchestra,’ Based on the Chaos Theory

Immigration literature reflects the multifaceted experiences of migrants, shaped by factors such as war, exile, an‎d the search for identity. This literary genre portrays themes of alienation, cultural duality, an‎d the confrontation between the "Self" an‎d the "Other." Within the framework of postcolonial literature, migration is not merely a geographical displacement but a complex engagement with power, language, an‎d identity, through which the migrantʹs "Self" is redefined in relation to the "Other." This study employed a qualitative textual analysis method, drawing on American comparative literature perspectives, to examine the differences an‎d similarities in the representation of the "Self" an‎d the "Other" in two prominent postmodern an‎d immigration novels: How to Breastfeed from a lupus Without Biting You by Amara Lakhous an‎d The Nocturnal Harmony of the Wooden Orchestra by Reza Ghasemi, based on chaos theory. The findings indicate that both novels utilize elements of chaos—such as dynamic adaptation, the butterfly effect, self-similarity, an‎d strange attractors—to reflect the instability of migrant identity an‎d the complexities of interacting with the "Other." The works of Lakhous an‎d Ghasemi focus on the political, social, an‎d cultural ruptures in Algeria an‎d Iran, respectively. Through non-linear narratives an‎d fragmented characters, both works reveal the hidden order within the chaos of migration.
