In this study, a series of functionalized molecules with extended π-structures, including stilbene an‎d amide- an‎d thioamide-based heterocycles, were designed an‎d synthesized using inexpensive an‎d readily available starting materials. The synthesized compounds were examined in the presence of various anions. The fluorescence of the designed sensor containing the pseudo thiohydantoin ring was quenched upon exposure to the cyanide ion. This response exhibited significant sensitivity an‎d selec‎tivity compared to other tested anions. The detection limit of the sensor for the cyanide ion was determined, an‎d its binding constant was calculated. The reversibility of the sensor was also investigated, with results indicating stable performance over multiple cycles.
