Foreign investment is known as one of the important sources of financing in the development of infrastructure and the improvement of the performance of sports clubs. The overall objective of the present study is to identify and analyze the factors affecting the attraction of foreign investment in the development of professional football clubs in Iran. The research method (mixed) was qualitative and quantitative with a content analysis approach and semi-structured interviews with experts in the field of sports economics, stock market, and football club managers and football club experts. Data analysis was performed using primary and secondary coding, and then the relationships between the factors were explained using the ISM method. Next, using Amos analysis, the key influential factors were ranked. The results showed that five factors, including economic, legal, managerial, infrastructural, and sociocultural factors, play an effective role in attracting foreign investors. The most important influential factors were economic stability, legal transparency, corporate governance, the possibility of capital return, and improving the international image of the clubs. Also, the presented structural model showed that economic and legal factors have the greatest influence and cultural factors have the greatest dependence. The findings of this study can help policymakers, sports managers, and investors in making strategic decisions and developing effective programs to attract international investments in the countryʹs sports.
