Analising the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Diplomacy regarding the war between Russia an‎d Ukraine

Abstract: Russiaʹs war in Ukraine is considered a geopolitical turning point in the 21st century. This conflict has brought wide consequences in various political, economic, social an‎d security dimensions an‎d has significantly overshadowed the world order. In the meantime, the Islamic Republic of Iran, as one of the influential regional actors, has adopted a cautious an‎d balanced approach towards this war. The purpose of this study is to analyze the diplomacy of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the war between Russia an‎d Ukraine. What is the diplomacy of J.A. Iran regarding the war between Russia an‎d Ukraine? The diplomacy of the Islamic Republic of Iran towards the Russia-Ukraine war is actually a reflection of a multifaceted strategy that is aimed at strengthening Iranʹs regional an‎d international position, confronting international pressures, an‎d exploiting the opportunities arising from this crisis. In general, Iranʹs strategy towards the war in Ukraine is a complex an‎d multi-layered approach that is designed based on the principles of realism an‎d opportunism. By adopting an apparently neutral approach, while maintaining relations with Russia an‎d benefiting from its support, Tehran has been spared from the strong reactions of the international community. Providing military aid to Russia, especially in the field of drones, shows Iranʹs tacit support for this country. The war in Ukraine has provided an opportunity for Iran to reduce the global focus on its domestic issues an‎d create more space for political maneuvers. Also, by strengthening its cooperation with Russia an‎d China, Tehran has strengthened its position in the region an‎d has benefited from the support of these countries against international pressure. This research is descriptive an‎d in the field of qualitative research. The research is applied in terms of purpose. The method of research is library-documents in such a way that the different chapters of the thesis have been prepared an‎d compiled by studying numerous scientific-research books an‎d articles using the recording tool.
