Literary translation an‎d interpretation of Baiya Kobrai from Komeit Asadi

Poetry holds a special place in all languages for conveying concepts, to the extent that it is sometimes used to express an‎d validate ideas requiring argument an‎d reasoning. This form of expression is particularly evident in Arabic, especially during the pre-Islamic era an‎d the early Islamic period. Among the eloquent poems preserved from the first century AH are the Hāshimiyyāt odes by Komeit Asadi. These poems were composed in praise of Banu Hashim, particularly the Ahl al-Bayt (the Household of Purity an‎d Infallibility), an‎d address theological discussions as well as the socio-political conditions of the Shiʹa community during that time. Due to their significance, researchers have studied, interpreted, an‎d translated these odes extensively. The present study aims to take a literary approach to Komeit Asadi’s poetry, with a particular focus on analyzing an‎d examining Bā’iyyat al-Kubrā (the second Hāshimiyyah) in terms of morphology, syntax, an‎d rhetorical devices. Based on these aspects, it provides both a prose an‎d a verse translation. The most significant achievement of this research is the poetic translation, which has not been previously undertaken, leaving a noticeable gap in the existing literary works.
