Various factors affect running mechanics, one of which is the progression angle. In previous studies, the effect of changes in progression angle on various variables in the lower limb during walking and sometimes running has been investigated. However, a study that comprehensively examined the biomechanical variables of the joints in the lower limb during running was not observed. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of progression angle on torque, power, and work of the lower limb joints during running. The present study was conducted with the presence of 30 participants. 12 men and 18 women. To record running kinematic data, a motion analysis camera with a frequency of 200 frames per second was used. To record the forces acting on the joints, a Kistler Winterthur force plate device with a sampling frequency of 1000 Hz was used. Subjects ran randomly in five positions: toe out, toe slightly out, normal, toe slightly in, and toe in, and each condition was repeated three times.
The present study showed that the foot progression angle in the ankle joint affected plantar flexion, dorsiflexion torque, inversion torque, foot origin torque, negative power in the sagittal plane, positive power and negative power in the frontal plane, negative work in the sagittal plane, and positive work and negative work in the frontal plane, and positive power in the sagittal plane had no effect on positive work in the sagittal plane. In the knee joint, foot progression angle affected flexion torque, extensor torque, adductor torque, and abductor torque, positive power and negative power in the sagittal plane, positive power and negative power in the frontal plane, positive work and negative work in the sagittal plane, and positive work and negative work in the frontal plane. In the hip joint, , foot progression angle was effective with flexion torque, extensor torque, adductor torque, abductor torque, negative power in the sagittal plane, positive and negative power in the frontal plane, positive work in the sagittal plane, and positive power in the sagittal plane and negative work in the sagittal plane had no effect
