Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the sports tourism of disabled individuals: challenges and solutions. The methodology of this research was qualitative and exploratory, conducted in the field. Additionally, the research, in terms of its aim, is categorized as applied research. The sample information power approach was used to determine the sample size. Accordingly, 14 disabled adolescents with experience in sports tourism were selected as the research sample in a targeted and accessible manner. Data were collected in two sections: library research (review of theoretical foundations and research background) and field study (conducting semi-structured interviews). The thematic analysis method of Braun and Clarke (2006) was used for data analysis. The results of the interview analysis identified eleven fundamental challenges faced by disabled individuals in entering sports tourism, including transportation challenges, financial and cost issues, accompaniment and support, social challenges, sports facilities and equipment, event venues, individual challenges, accommodation, urban infrastructure, information shortages, and planning and policymaking. In this research, after reviewing, modifying, and changing the initial 275 codes, a total of 166 codes were identified and extracted into 11 main themes based on the thematic analysis method. Consequently, urban managers, officials, and policymakers in the fields of tourism and sports can utilize the results of this research in their future planning and take effective and principled actions to address the challenges faced by disabled individuals in participating in sports tourism.
