Given the significance of employability and the role of various factors, including family-related factors, it is essential to examine the influence of family background factors on perceived future employability. The present study aimed to investigate the role of family background factors in the perceived future employability of undergraduate students at the University of Isfahan. The family background factors included family bonding, family emotional atmosphere, parental authority, and family communication patterns. The research method was descriptive and correlational in nature. The statistical population consisted of undergraduate students at the University of Isfahan in the academic year 2023-2024. A sample of 254 students (179 female and 75 male) was selected through stratified sampling based on gender and field of study (humanities, basic sciences, and engineering). To collect data, the Perceived Future Employability Scale, Perceived Employability Questionnaire, Parental Bonding Instrument, Family Emotional Atmosphere Questionnaire, Parental Authority Questionnaire, and Revised Family Communication Patterns Scale were utilized. Data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and hierarchical regression analysis through SPSS-26 and AMOS-26 software. As part of the studyʹs objectives, the psychometric properties of the Perceived Future Employability Scale were examined. The validity and reliability of the scale were confirmed through various methods. Regarding the role of family background factors in perceived future employability, the variables of family emotional atmosphere and family communication patterns significantly predicted perceived future employability. More specifically, within the parental bonding factor, the dimension of attention and care played a predictive role. In the family emotional atmosphere, the encouragement dimension was a significant predictor. Among the dimensions of parental authority, both permissive and authoritative parenting styles contributed significantly to the prediction. Lastly, in the family communication patterns, the conversation orientation dimension had a significant predictive role in studentsʹ perceived future employability. Additionally, among the demographic characteristics, family size and academic year played a role in predicting studentsʹ perceived future employability. Among the family background factors, the emotional atmosphere of the family and family communication patterns were influential in employability. In general, it can be concluded that family background factors, particularly those related to the family’s emotional atmosphere and communication patterns, play a significant role in studentsʹ perceived future employability. Therefore, it is essential to consider these factors in family interventions and educational programs aimed at enhancing studentsʹ perceived future employability.
