The main purpose of this research is to design the model of glass cliff in service organizations of Golestan province. This Research is developmental in terms of purpose and the research method used is a mixed method of exploratory design (qualitative- quantitative). First, In the qualitative part, a grounded theory study was used to develop the glass cliff model. The participants of the qualitative phase were men and women managers working in service organizations of Golestan province and university professors. Twenty individual were interviewed based on purposive and snowball sampling methods. By analizing the interviews conducted with them, the studied model was extracted, compiled and designed in the form of causal relationships. This model includes causal conditions (characteristics of women leadership, selection of women based on meritocracy criteria, womenʹs preferences, organizational factors and the reluctance of some men to accept precarious managerial positions), central phenomenon (glass cliff with two dimensions: attitude change and gender discrimination), contextual conditions (cultural development, social factors and government support), intervening conditions (organizational factors and legal support), strategies(succession, individual development planning, support networks and the fit of managerial jobs with the abilities and personality traits of women) and the consequences(positive and negative individual and organizational consequences). Then the findings of the qualitative part of the research were compiled as a set of propositions and hypotheses for testing in the quantitative part. By analyzing the qualitative data, a preliminary questionnaire in the form of 69 items was designed and after confirming the validity and reliability of the measurement was distributed among female managers working in service organizations of Golestan province according to stratified random sampling method. The statistical population under investigation in the quantitative part included all female managers working in service organizations of Golestan province (N= 527). Considering minimum five times and maximum fifteen times the number of items, 370 questionnaires were distributed and finally 337 questionnaires were analyzed. For data analysis, structural equation modeling and confirmatory factor analysis was used, using Amos 24 software. . The results of data analysis showed that the causal conditions had a significant effect on the glass cliff phenomenon (β=0.231) and the glass cliff phenomenon (β=0.362) along with the context (β=0.211) and intervening conditions (β=0.205) have significant effect on the strategies of the glass cliff phenomenon. The results also indicate that the strategies affect the consequences (β=0.448). The results of this research can be used by managers, legislative authorities and researchers to know the challenges of women in precarious managerial positions.
