The main issue of this study is to investigate the correct concept of childrenʹs obedience to their parents, the limits of parental authority in various affairs of childrenʹs lives, and its contrast with the concept of free will and independence. In the teachings of Islam, obedience to parents is considered one of the duties of children, but emphasizing this issue without paying attention to other dimensions such as human free will and independence in life will create problems in the family. In this study, using a descriptive method and by juxtaposing the two issues of obedience to parents and the independence of children in the teachings of Islam and psychology and its comparative analysis, it was explained that not only the pure obedience of children is not the main goal of education, but the main goal in education is to make children self-sufficient, which will never be achieved by expecting 100% obedience that leads to dependence. In addition to the dependence of children on their parents, pure obedience causes them to become passive and causes children to always be influenced by others and do not have an independent value system. It was also found that in addition to the obligatory and forbidden things, in the field of personal and social issues such as marriage, choosing a spouse, choosing a career and field of study, and the like, parents should only guide their children and provide them with their experience and allow their children to make independent decisions, because these matters do not make sense except with freedom and free will, which are inherent values of human beings. They are not on the right path. In addition, it was found that the better the level of emotional relationship between parents and their children, and the more affection and respect for their children in their educational method instead of constant commands, and pay more attention to the freedom, independence, and capacity and ability of their children in their requests, the more the amount of listening to their children will be.
