ويژگي¬هاي ژئوپليتيكي و ژئواستراتژيك هر منطقه، محور مهمي در تعيين اهميت آن و چگونگي روابط متقابل آن است. عراق بر اساس معيارهاي ژئوپليتيكي كشوري نيمه محصور در خشكي محسوب مي¬شود، زيرا دسترسي زيادي به درياها ندارد. پروژه عظيم بندر فاو عراق را به مهم ترين مسير خشكي تبديل خواهد كرد. كالاها، سرمايه گذاران و شركت¬هاي سرمايه¬گذاري از جنوب به شمال رفت و آمد دارند برعكس، تأثير زيادي مسائل اقتصادي، اجتماعي، امنيتي، فرهنگي و حتي سياسي دارد. اين امر منجر به ايجاد مسائلي مي¬شود كه در جهت ثبات امنيت و ثبات سياسي عراق و منطقه است كه در دهه¬هاي گذشته شاهد تنش¬هاي فراواني بوده است. اين بندر با رهايي عراق از نگراني‌هاي ژئواستراتژيك به تحقق خواسته‌هاي فضايي اين كشور كمك مي‌كند؛ و آن را از تنگنا خارج و به مركز و دالان تجارت جهاني تبديل مي¬كند. عراق اهميت استراتژيك خود را به عنوان پل زميني كه شرق را به غرب متصل مي¬كند، باز مي¬گرداند، و به رقيبي جدي براي كانال سوئز تبديل خواهد شد. اين پروژه با كاهش وابستگي عراق به بنادر كشورهاي همسايه، دستاوردهاي اقتصادي و حاكميتي را براي عراق به ارمغان مي¬آورد. پژوهش حاضر به بررسي اهميت احداث بندر بزرگ فاو از جنبه داخلي و خارجي پرداخته است. روش پژوهش به صورت توصيفي ـ تحليلي است به صورتي كه يافته¬هاي پژوهش از منابع كتابخانه¬اي گردآوري شده¬اند. نتايج حاصل از پژوهش نشان مي دهد كه احداث بندر بزرگ فاو در بُعد داخلي داراي سه اثر مهم براي عراق است كه شامل:1) افزايش تبادلات فضايي از بُعد ناحيه¬اي و استاني 2) افزايش ثبات سياسي 3) تنوع بخشي به اقتصاد تك محصولي مبتني بر نفت عراق است همچنين از بُعد خارجي نيز اثرات مهمي را براي عراق به همراه خواهد داشت كه اهم آنها عبارتند از: 1) افزايش سرمايه گذاري خارجي در عراق؛ 2) توسعه حمل و نقل دريايي و افزايش تبادلات عراق با بنادر بين¬المللي؛ 3)تحول در موقعيت دريايي عراق؛ 4)تبديل عراق به يك مسير ارتباط خشكي بين خليج فارس و درياي مديترانه؛ 5) بهبود موقعيت ترانزيتي عراق؛ 6) افزايش واردات و صادرات؛ 7) نقش آفريني بيشتر عراق در روندهاي بين المللي.

According to geopolitical criteria, Iraq is considered a semi-landlocked country, because it does not have much access to the seas. The huge project will turn Iraqʹs Faw port into the most important land route. investors and investment companies travel from south to north, on the contrary, economic, social, security, cultural and even political issues have a great impact. This leads to the creation of issues that are in the direction of the stability of security and political stability of Iraq and the region, which has seen many tensions in the past decades. By freeing Iraq from geostrategic concerns, this port helps to fulfill the countryʹs space demands. And it turns it out of the bottleneck and into the center and corridor of world trade. Iraq will regain its strategic importance as a land bridge connecting East to West, and will become a serious competitor for the Suez Canal. By reducing Iraqʹs dependence on the ports of neighboring countries, this project brings economic and governance gains to Iraq. The present study has examined the importance of the construction of the Grand Port of Faw from the internal and external aspects. The research method is descriptive-analytical, as the findings are collected from library sources The results of the research show that the construction of Faw Grand Port in the domestic dimension has three important effects for Iraq, which include: 1) Increasing regional and provincial spatial exchanges 2) Increasing political stability 3) Diversifying Iraqʹs single-product economy based on oil It will also have important effects for Iraq from the external perspective, the most important of which are:1) increasing foreign investment in Iraq; 2) development of sea transportation and increase of Iraqi exchanges with international ports; 3) evolution in Iraqʹs maritime situation; 4) turning Iraq into a land connection route between the Persian Gulf and the Mediterranean Sea; 5) improving Iraqʹs transit situation; 6) increase in import and export; 7) Iraqʹs greater role in international trends.
