The current research aims to analyze the lived experiences of the students of the Department of Educational Sciences from informal interactions with faculty members with a practical purpose and with Van Manenʹs phenomenological qualitative method. The participants of the research included undergraduate students in the field of educational sciences in 2017-2019 and masterʹs students in the department of educational sciences in the year 2021 of Isfahan University, who were selected by purposive sampling method. The sampling process continued until theoretical saturation was reached, and finally, 19 students were interviewed. The data collection tool was a semi-structured interview that was conducted in person and by telephone. The interview questions were approved by the supervisors after they were designed. The text of the interviews was returned to the interviewees to avoid any mistakes or misunderstandings and was approved by the interviewees. In addition, the supervisors were also involved in the data analysis process and the validity of the findings from the interviews was confirmed by them. The interviews were analyzed using the triple method related to Van Manenʹs phenomenological method (general reading, selective reading, and detailed reading) and the findings were presented in the form of four main categories of social growth, academic-occupational growth, and change in attitude towards life. and personal growth and factors affecting the quality of interaction were expressed. Studentsʹ experiences showed that most of the informal interactions formed between professors and students were related to career and academic issues. Some professors have encouraged and motivated students to take up this job by drawing a clear horizon of the career future, valuing the job of a teacher and transferring their professional experiences, and some of them have done the opposite. In general, professors have had an important influence in creating career attitudes, choosing career and academic paths in students. In terms of social development, it was also stated that professors and informal interactions with them have led to the strengthening of social development and social skills such as criticism in students. Also, in the field of changing the attitude towards life and personal growth, the students were divided into two groups: the first group believed that the professors had a deep and positive influence on their personal life, such as broadening their perspective, strengthening patience and self-esteem, and the second group believed that the professors had a deep and positive influence on their personal lives, such as strengthening patience and self-esteem, and the second group had negative influences such as feeling Humiliation, negative perfectionism, and disappointment have been mentioned, which in the end have an equal share of positive and negative experiences in this field. In addition to the effects mentioned in different dimensions of studentsʹ lives, the results showed that students and professors as the main elements of interaction have a role in the quality of informal interactions, but the contribution of professors is much higher and their behavior and personal characteristics such as responsiveness and busyness, framework Mental skills, friendly and respectful behavior, professorsʹ empathy and other things have a significant effect in reducing and increasing the amount of informal interactions.
